So I have written many stories before, but none of them have been more personal than Tragic the Clown. It came about at a very rough point in my life. A time when I knew that my marriage was on its final legs. It is a story that one probably would be surprised to see in comic book form, but since I was a kid, comics were always an escape. They were a way for me to deal with the hosts of other bullshit that I was coping with in life. Anytime something seemed to be going wrong in my life, I drew to deal with it.
Tragic the Clown came at a point in my life when I believed that love was in deed a figment of imagination. That it was something that could possibly never exist. I worked very hard on the story and gave it almost a year of my life. I was very proud of it when I published it and had a stack of freshly baked books ready to sell at Megacon one year. Unfortunately, I sold about two copies. My poor personal "Chasing Amy" story got shoved to the side while my sketchbooks, and other items got picked up instead. I ended up giving many copies of my book away. To my somewhat bittersweet delight, every person that read it, seemed to love it. I know I do. And I hope that you will too. Please take some time to read it all the way through. I would love to hear your comments on it, and will respond to every single one. In addition everyone who reads and comments on THIS post in particular will be eligible for a free sketch card drawing. Hell if the feedback is heartfelt and good enough, I may just give everyone that responds a card.

ReplyDeleteYou know... that was really good. I kind of got sucked into it before shift this morning. Great story and story-telling.
ReplyDeleteMike, just wanted to say THANKS for the pic and PSC you did for my son at WDW on Friday! Just returned from vacation and that's all he's talked about from when we returned to our room till this morning when he asked if he could take it to school and show his class. Never in a million years would I've thought that a picture would make him this stoked! He actually asked if we could go to the next hotel and have you do him in all the rest of the movies! It was truely a pleasure talking with you for the short time we did and I'll be posting a pic on scoundrel soon. I'll be in touch about some PSC's I have in mind. Just wanted again to say THANKS and let you know how much you touched my son!

I always really liked this one, Mike.
ReplyDeleteProbably my fave of your stories so far. Although, I'd like to know what happened in Cupid Corps, too!
I still owe you a review of Tragic. I promise you buddy, you'll see it very soon.
ReplyDeleteMike- I'm bummed because the link won't work for me, so now I gotta know how the story goes! I've liked your stuff since "Fantasy Force", so I'm gonna have to get "Tragic the Clown", especially if I can't get the link to work.. I'm glad you're back blogging again- was boring when you I couldn't get an update..

Yep, I bought it "way back when" and then didn't read it until I moved onto my sailboat last year. And then, when I had a bad day or got lonely, I'd read it again, because all my old friends in Orlando were in it as characters (including ME). Eventually, it helped me, in a sense, decide to come back to Orlando.
ReplyDeleteOh wow that was a fantastic read. Not what I was expecting at all. There are several elements in that story that strike very close to home for me, and somehow the whole story feels very familiar. In high school I remember doing a series of drawings and paintings as a therapy of sorts to deal with problems, and so I can definitely relate to that process as well. I very much like reading stories that don't have a happy ending, because reality doesn't always have a happy ending. And in that way, stories like Tragics are more realistic to the people that are going through tough times as well, because everything doesn't always work out. Anyway, i'm rambling. Thanks for putting that up Michael, I'll be rereading that for sure.
ReplyDeleteI love the Tragic story; you're a great artist and writer! By the way, thank you for including me in the "revised" dedication page. It was beautiful and means the world to me! I truly adore you, and it's wonderful to know that I play some part in inspiring such a great artist at his work!:)
ReplyDeleteAll My Love,
Jaime
I stumbled across your blog, and just read your "Tragic" tale. It was fantastic! Your art and storytelling are great.
ReplyDeleteToo bad it wasn't a big seller. The stoopid public don't know what they're missing!
